The president of Petrobras, General Joaquim Silva e Luna met this Monday (7th) with the rapporteur of the PEC on fuels in the Chamber, deputy Christino Áureo (PP-RJ).
To CNN, Silva e Luna stated that “at this moment of very high fuel prices, and with no prospect of a drop in the short term, for reasons that are much more external than internal. A temporary way out has to be found, via taxes. I understand that this PEC by deputy Christino Áureo contributes a lot. Parliament perfects it,” he said.
During the meeting, the general said that he viewed his text with “good eyes”, reported the deputy.
First, because of the authorizing nature – that is, the Union and States that will decide whether to lower fuel taxes – and second because the exemption has a deadline to end, it would last in 2022 and 2023.
“I feel that the company has the vision that its main role is to give results through dividends and to be contributing to fiscal balance. She is sensitive to what, at the end, is happening with the consumer”, said deputy Christino Áureo.
“He [general Silva e Luna] is concerned that Petrobras will remain strong”.
The PEC generated controversy because it does not have the support of the government’s economic team, but is supported by the political wing.
