Petrobras records explosion of Covid-19 cases among employees, says union

The Unique Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) reported this Thursday (13th) that Petrobras is experiencing an explosion of Covid-19 cases among its employees. 725 cases and 1,041 suspects were confirmed.

The figures were presented by the Petrobras Organizational Response Structure (EOR) group during a meeting with FUP leaders this morning.

Most of those infected are in Rio de Janeiro, where most of the company’s operations are located, with 468 confirmed and 670 suspected. São Paulo comes next, with 119 confirmed and 161 suspects.

By comparison, the company as of December 15 of last year had 18 confirmed cases and a total of 109 suspects.

For the director of Safety, Environment and Health (SMS) at FUP, Antonio Raimundo Teles, the numbers confirm an outbreak of the disease at Petrobras.

“In the midst of this, it is surprising that the company’s management is concerned, above all, with defending the company’s interests”, said Teles, referring to the proposal presented to increase the company’s work schedule from 8 to 12 hours, in temporary and emergency regime, as had been adopted at the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020.

To try to contain the increase in cases, Petrobras adopted the hybrid work regime, allowing a maximum of 40% of employees in the headquarters building, in Rio de Janeiro. Employees will be able to go to the office up to twice a week.
