Petrobras reports net income of BRL 188.33 billion in 2022

Petrobras announced on Wednesday night (1st) that its net profit recorded in 2022 was R$ 188.33 billion.

The state-owned company released its balance sheet for the fourth quarter (4Q22) and consequently the results for the year 2022.

According to the company, all production targets for the year were met, having reached an annual record in operated production. In the quarter, total own production in the pre-salt layer was 1.5% above that registered in the previous three months and represents 75% of Petrobras’ total production.

“This result was mainly due to the start-up of FPSO Guanabara (Mero field) and P-71 (Itapu field), as well as the continuity of the ramp-ups of P-68 (Berbigão and Sururu fields) , FPSO Carioca (Sepia field) and FPSO Guanabara, all located in the Santos Basin pre-salt. Another factor that contributed to this result was the entry into production of new wells in the Campos Basin”, says the company’s report.

dividends

Petrobras approved this Wednesday (1st) the payment of a new megadividend to shareholders. The decision was taken by the eleven members of the Board of Directors, which includes the new president of the state-owned company, Jean Paul Prates (PT).

Petrobras’ mega-dividend should be at R$ 29 billion, but the board even defended R$ 35 billion, according to a source from the board of directors heard by CNN .

The decision comes a day after the criticism by the president of the Workers’ Party, Gleisi Hofmann, on the shareholder remuneration policy.

The Swiss bank UBS made an estimate showing that Petrobras should distribute the equivalent of 28% of its share price in dividends to its shareholders.

When comparing with other international oil companies, Petrobras comes out ahead. China’s Sinopec distributes 9% in dividends. Then come Exxon and Saudi Aramco, with 4%. Finally, Chevron and Shell with a distribution of 3% in dividends.
