Petrobras shareholders approved the name of José Mauro Ferreira Coelho as a member of the state-owned company’s Board of Directors, during a General Meeting held this Wednesday (13) for the election of new members, with participation open, in a virtual way, to the 850 thousand shareholders. from the company.
Coelho is the name indicated to assume the presidency of the oil company and, for that, he must necessarily be part of the Board of Directors.
The meeting also had on the agenda the vote on the company’s financial statements, the election of the members of the Fiscal Council and the decisions on the destination of the result of the accounting period of 2021 and the remuneration of the directors.
Engineer Márcio Andrade Weber was also approved as president of the new Board.
Coelho is former Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), a position he held from April 2020 to October 2021.
Before being secretary of the MME, Coelho was for four years director of oil, gas and biofuels at Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), a state-owned company that provides services to the Ministry in the area of studies and research to help in the planning of the energy sector.
The names of José Mauro Coelho and Weber were nominated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) after economist Adriano Pires withdrew from assuming the presidency of Petrobras, and Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, did not accept the invitation to the presidency. of the Council.
Pires declined the invitation due to the expectation that his name would be rejected in the background check, in a possible conflict of interest due to his connections in the private environment, acting as a consultant in the oil and gas area.
Recount
At around 19:30, the Assembly was paralyzed for a recount of votes. The decision was taken after the minority shareholders signed the first two names on the Board: Marcelo Mesquita and Francisco Petros. The Assembly resumed after 10pm.
New meeting this Thursday
With the approval of Coelho by the new Council, a new meeting will be held this Thursday (14) for the election and inauguration of the executive. If elected, Coelho will take the place of General Joaquim Silva e Luna, who has been in charge of the company since April 2021.

When sworn in, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho will be the third president of Petrobras in three years of the Jair Bolsonaro government.
