The future president of Petrobras, Caio Mario Paes de Andrade, should change the entire board of the state-owned company, they told CNN two sources directly involved in the matter.
The replacement of the board — and not just the president of the company — is a request made by the federal government and allied politicians. According to the sources, the objective is to facilitate the change in fuel price policy, spacing out the readjustments, and guaranteeing influence to the parties within the company.
Appointed by the federal government, Paes de Andrade can take charge of Petrobras in a few days. All that is needed is the approval of his name by the eligibility committee for the board of directors to call a special meeting and name him a member of the collegiate and chief executive.
The quicker exchange is possible thanks to the resignation this morning of José Mauro Ferreira Coelho, who held the presidency and was a member of the board of directors. Due to the resignation, the statute allows Andrade to be elected as part of the collegiate and then as executive president, regardless of the holding of the shareholders’ meeting.
While the final procedures are unfolding, the board of directors has temporarily appointed Fernando Borges, then production director, to command the state-owned company.
