Pets: Survey points that 80% of animals in the homes of Brazil are adopted

The adoption of pets presents itself as a reality in Brazilian homes. According to the Golden/Opinion Box survey, 80% of pet tutors in the country adopted their animals. The most common forms reported are by donations of close people (37%), direct rescue of the street (29%) and adoption through NGOs and shelters (21%).

The family issue is an important factor pointed out as a motivating factor: 36% of respondents said they adopted because they grew up in families with the custom of adoption. Another 34% cited that adoption was made for seeing a needy animal. Among those who have already done so, 90% said they would adopt another pet in the future.

“The growing adherence to responsible adoption reflects a significant advance in society’s awareness of animal welfare. However, there are still challenges, such as the adaptation of pets to the new home and the unexpected costs of health, which can impact the decision of many people,” says Felipe Mascarenhas, Golden Marketing Head, premierpet brand.

Among the challenges, the main one pointed out by respondents is really the adaptation of pets to the new home, cited in 26% of the answers. Another 22% also brought unexpected spending as negative factors. Nevertheless, 41% said they had no difficulty after adoption.

The survey also indicates that helping an abandoned animal would be a reason that would promote adoption to 50% of respondents. Assistance with initial costs and increased amount of responsible adoption campaigns would also be important actions to increase the number of adopters.

Last Friday (04), Golden took an action at Christ the Redeemer to promote the cause of adoption in Brazil. A projection made the monument “embrace” a pet, drawing attention to the importance of the cause and finding a home to rescued animals.


In addition to the projection, Golden, through the Premierpet Institute, will donate more than 27 tons of food to partner institutions of the Sustainable Christ Consortium, which act directly on the care of approximately 600 pets.

The initiative will also feature three adoption events during April, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre, promoting opportunities for more animals to find a home.

The Golden/Opinion Box survey interviewed 1,146 people from all states of Brazil.
