PF agents believe in new accusations in the Marielle case

With the agreement signed by former military police officer Élcio Queiroz, Federal Police (PF) agents participating in the investigation into the murder of former councilor Marielle Franco believe that new plea bargains should be closed.

According to reports made to CNN Brasil, in recent weeks, the Federal Police received signals about the willingness of suspects involved in the murder to give testimony.

The investigators’ assessment is that Élcio’s plea bargain has the potential to generate a ripple effect on other names targeted by the Federal Police investigation.

This is because, in the evaluation of Federal Police agents, other investigated may adhere to plea bargaining agreements even to shield themselves from possible accusations.

Elcio stated, in a plea bargain, that retired police officer Ronnie Lessa was the author of the shots that killed Marielle and the driver Anderson Gomes.

On March 14, 2018, Marielle and Anderson’s car was hit with 13 rounds from an HK MP5 submachine gun. The councilor was hit by four shots in the head and the driver by three. The two died on the spot.

Queiroz also accused former firefighter Maxwell Simões Corrêa, known as Suel, as being responsible for making “campana” and following in Marielle’s footsteps, in addition to taking the car used in the crime to a dismantling shop.

Dino gave a press conference alongside Andrei Rodrigues, director general of the PF, and Renato Vaz, director of the Federal Penitentiary System, an agency of the Ministry of Justice that entered to collaborate in the case for the first time since the opening of the investigation.

Queiroz’s award-winning collaboration took place inside the federal prison in Brasília (DF), where he is being held in custody by the federal government.
