The Federal Police arrested this Wednesday (18), in Maceió (AL), the delegate of the Civil Police of Alagoas Daniel Mayer. He is director of the Judicial Police and accused of obstructing the investigation of a homicide that he himself was investigating.
The case in question is the murder of political activist Kleber Malaquias in 2020. He was known for denouncing local politicians and was killed in a public place.
After the crime, delegate Mayer began investigating the case, but the Public Ministry of Alagoas found inconsistencies over the years.
The delegate was reported by MPAL. According to the CNN prosecutors accuse the delegate of making documents from the case disappear and forging evidence to incriminate a dead person and “cover up” those really responsible.
Because of this, the body also requested the postponement of the popular jury that would be held on Thursday (19), due to the entry of a new person involved in the case.
The crime
According to the MPAL complaint, political activist Kleber Malaquias was lured to a gas station on the day of the crime, July 15, 2020, at around 10:30 am, at the invitation of a suspect, who had been instructed by another accomplice. They stayed at the location for a while and, around 2 pm, went to a bar.
An hour later, Kleber asked for the bill and went to the bathroom, followed by another suspect. There, the perpetrator shot the victim.
The crime occurred on the victim’s birthday and was allegedly politically motivated. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has already charged seven people, including civil and military police officers.
Kleber Malaquias was known for reporting crimes committed by politicians and other authorities. According to the MPAL, this was the motive for the murder, which was meticulously planned, including the tampering of vehicle license plates and the activation of telephone lines to conceal communication between those involved.
THE CNN requested a position from PCAL and awaits a response. The report seeks the defense of the delegate.
The MPAL and the PF say that the investigations are ongoing and therefore many details of the case are still being kept confidential.
