The offender considered the leader of the animal game in the north of Rio was arrested this Thursday (30) when he dropped his daughter off at a private school in Barra da Tijuca, west of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
The capture was carried out by the Federal Police in joint action with the Special Action Group to Combat Criminal Organizations and Criminal Investigations (Gaeco), from the Public Ministry of Rio.
Marcelo Simões Mesqueu, known as Marcelo Cupim, had been on the run since Operation End of the Line, launched by the MP-RJ in November last year. He was charged with crimes of criminal organization, corruption and money laundering.
According to Gaeco, the investigation was launched to investigate crimes committed by misdemeanors who exploit games of chance, following criminal news about clandestine bingo that would operate in Copacabana, in the South Zone, with the permission of military police officers.
Marcelo was taken to the PF Superintendence, in the central region of Rio, after which he will be sent to the prison system.
