PF arrests divers in operation against group that sent cocaine to Europe on ships

The Federal Police (PF) launched, this Wednesday morning (24), Operation Novos Rumos, which seeks to dismantle a criminal group responsible for exporting pure cocaine (cocaine hydrochloride) to Europe via vessels.

Four pretrial detention warrants and six search and seizure warrants are served in Rio de Janeiro, Niterói and Magé, in Baixada Fluminense.

According to the investigations, the criminal group – linked to the main criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro – acts by storing cocaine in warehouses located in the communities of Rio de Janeiro, for later shipment by means of ships destined for the European continent.

Also according to the PF, in order to have access to the final destination of the ships of interest, the group had the support of employees who presented the routes of the vessels moored in the port of the Rio de Janeiro capital.

In addition, professional divers – targets of preventive arrest warrants – were part of the group and were responsible for hiding the drug in the hulls of the ships.

More than 1,470 kg of cocaine were seized by the PF in Rio de Janeiro during the investigations. The seized assets will be forwarded to the PF Regional Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro for the usual procedures.
