PF arrests employees at Guarulhos airport for exchanging suitcases with drugs

This Wednesday morning (24), as part of Operation Destination Exchanged, the Federal Police carried out four temporary arrest warrants and seven search and seizure warrants, in Guarulhos and São Paulo, against a group suspected of exchanging luggage tags and inserting suitcases with drugs destined for abroad.

The four prisoners are employees of Guarulhos airport, according to the investigation. CNN .

The investigations began with the seizure of a suitcase containing 21 kg of cocaine, in February, at Brasília Airport, which was destined for the city of Johannesburg, in South Africa. The PF made contact with the scheme's employees, from Guarulhos .

Prisoners work on tagging and moving luggage, starting at check-in. The PF also points to a woman who was seen handing over the suitcase with the drugs to those involved.

The seven search and seizure warrants involve other suspected employees and also an app driver who allegedly helped the group.

This is yet another development in the Federal Police's investigations against a criminal organization that uses airport terminals for international drug trafficking. According to investigations, the group exchanges labels on suitcases already checked in from people with no connection to the crime and exchanges them for suitcases containing drugs.

Since last year, the PF has discovered cases of Brazilians who were arrested abroad as victims of this group. Two Brazilian women, from Goiânia, Kátyna Baía and Jeanne Paolini, managed to prove in German courts that they were innocent, based on PF investigations, and were released.

Ahmed Hasan and his wife are imprisoned in Turkey, based on the same case, but have not yet been released. Singer Anitta even posted a video on the internet asking President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to intercede for the Libyan-Brazilian couple.
