PF arrests Haitian who forged visas for foreigners

The Federal Police (PF) arrested a Haitian this Friday (16) and also served two search and seizure warrants in the city of Candeias, Bahia. The prisoner will remain in the state at the disposal of Justice.

The operation, called Traitê, combats the issuance of false visas for foreigners, which began to be investigated by the Farm Police Station in Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the PF, the investigation lasted about six months and culminated in the arrest of a Haitian, who was issuing false visas to foreigners who intended to settle in Brazil. The PF says that around 98 false visas were issued and that they cost an average of R$1,500 each.

The agreements to obtain the visa initially took place through a tourism agency advertised on social media. Soon after, the final procedures were done through the WhatsApp messaging application.

Among the victims of the coup are Haitians residing in several Brazilian cities, including Porto Alegre, where the complaint took place and resulted in the police investigation. Those involved in the case will answer for the crimes of falsification of public document and embezzlement.

Traitê, after which the operation is named, means “traitor” in Haitian.
