Nine people, including four civil servants from the Federal Revenue of Brazil and a police officer, were arrested this Wednesday morning (6) during Operation Entreposto, launched by the Federal Police. They are accused of using their positions to divert and appropriate goods seized by the federal agency. The materials were later reinserted into the informal market.
In total, 90 federal police officers and 16 members of the Internal Revenue Service worked to comply with nine arrest warrants, 15 search and seizure warrants, three personal search warrants and 12 precautionary measures, the kidnapping of 22 properties, 24 vehicles and the blocking of bank accounts with an approximate value of R$37 million.
The warrants, issued by the 2nd Federal Court of the Judiciary Subsection of Santa Maria/RS, were executed in Santa Maria/RS, Pelotas/RS, Lajeado/RS, Braga/RS, Santo Augusto/RS and Chapecó/SC.
The investigations began after the Federal Revenue Superintendence issued an official statement to the agency’s Internal Affairs Department, which led to a criminal investigation by the Federal Police. During the investigative process, it was demonstrated that the seizure records were fraudulent, meaning that only a portion of what was actually seized entered the Federal Revenue Office.
Reinsertion into the informal market took place and servers were paid by commission on product sales. The men who worked in this type of trade already have a history of committing smuggling and embezzlement crimes.
In addition to those involved, the participation of a military police officer from the Intelligence sector in the state of Santa Catarina was also proven. He helped to operationalize the approaches and provided support in the disposal of products that were diverted.
The accused will be charged with embezzlement, facilitating smuggling or embezzlement, money laundering and criminal organization.
