THE Federal police (PF) arrested this Wednesday (24), a member of the Italian mafia “Ndrangheta” in Goiás, accused of sending large amounts of cocaine to Italy hidden between marble and granite floors through ports of Espírito Santo.
The main target of today’s action, arrested in Goiânia, is a criminal known to European authorities. According to the PF, he is Italian and a member of the mafia organization that controls a significant part of the cocaine trafficking bound for Europe.
With the measures carried out this morning, the PF says it considers that all those involved in sending the cargo seized in Italy have been identified and will now follow the Federal Court’s disposition to respond to the criminal process.
about the operation
The operation called La Spezia seeks to obtain new evidence in order to dismantle this gang, and is serving two preventive arrest warrants in Goiás and Santa Catarina, and five search and seizure warrants in Goiás, Espírito Santo and Santa Catarina.
The investigations began with information obtained from Italy, after the seizure of 338 kilograms of cocaine in the port of La Spezia, and the arrest of four people in the act, a Brazilian, an Italian and two Albanians, in December 2020.
The PF then, through international cooperation with the Guardia di Finanza, responsible for the police action in that country, obtained evidence that could help discover those involved in the criminal export in Espírito Santo and in other states of Brazil.
Those investigated will answer for criminal organization, international drug trafficking and money laundering. If convicted, the penalties applied can exceed 30 years in prison.
