PF arrests suspects of international drug trafficking in 3 states

Two arrest warrants and nine search and seizure warrants were executed by the Federal Police this Thursday morning (10) during an operation against international drug trafficking. The action took place in the municipalities of Conceição do Coité (BA), Navegantes (SC) and Buri (SP).

The investigation began in December 2022, when there was a seizure of more than 70 kg of DMT (dimethyltryptamine), approximately 198 kg of mescaline and approximately 358 kg of marijuana in San Miguel, Chile. At the time, the person responsible for receiving the illegal cargo in the country was also arrested.

According to the PF, the statement by the exporting company in Brazil that the substance sent was the extract of mimosa acacia root caught the attention of investigators.

However, it was found that, in fact, it was mimosa hostilis, indicating that there was an artifice in circumventing Chilean inspection mechanisms, as the substance is controlled by Chilean inspection bodies.

The Federal Police further explained that this same substance is known as Jurema Preta, widely found in the Brazilian semi-arid region. In its roots are found the contents of DMT, which is a psychedelic substance belonging to the tryptamine group, being the active principle of the ayahuasca mixture, used in the Santo Daime and Jurema wine rituals, well known by Brazilian indigenous peoples and from South America.

The court also ordered the seizure of goods and assets of those being investigated, who are part of the same family group and sent the drugs to several other countries such as Bulgaria, Canada and Argentina.
