PF arrests third party investigated in action that seized 47 kg of gold

This Tuesday (23), the Federal Police, with support from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), arrested the third person investigated in the action that seized 47.2 kg of gold in Manaus, Amazonas. The investigation began in December last year, when two men were arrested for transporting ore in a small aircraft, at the Aeroclube do Amazonas.

The cargo of gold extracted from illegal mining was valued at R$14.1 million. This was the largest seizure in the history of the state of Amazonas. The ore was found in 42 bars, with a purity of over 90%, in suitcases. In addition to an aircraft, two vehicles, a firearm and R$6,184 in cash were seized.

The new arrest was the result of Operation Pronta Response, to combat crimes of usurpation of Union assets, criminal organization and ideological falsehood, whose maximum combined sentences exceed 13 years in prison. In addition to the temporary arrest warrant, three search and seizure orders issued by the 4th Federal Court of the Judiciary Section of the State of Amazonas were executed.

Last year, when the gold was intercepted by PF agents, vehicles managed to escape. The teams began searching for the vehicles and occupants.

Operation Ready Response took place in three stages. The first occurred with the execution of two arrest warrants and four search and seizure warrants. The second stage, plus a preventive arrest warrant and a search and seizure warrant. In this third and final stage, the individual was arrested and will be heard at the Federal Police Superintendence in Amazonas.
