PF carries out operation against gold extraction in indigenous communities in Amazonas

In a joint action that lasted four days, the Federal Police, ICMBio and FUNAI carried out Operation Terra Viva, with the aim of combating illegal gold mining in the interior of Amazonas, in indigenous communities of Alto Solimões.

The agents removed miners who were extracting minerals from the region. During the operation, equipment used by criminals was also destroyed.

In addition to detaining the miners, Federal Police investigators also carried out a survey of the locations where unauthorized gold extraction is carried out. Dredgers were found, which were destroyed by authorities.

The objective of the bodies involved is the preservation of the rivers in the vicinity of the municipality of Tabatinga, located on the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Peru and Santo Antonio do Iça, with its tributaries, one of the main ones being the Solimões River.

Investigations continue to combat mining activities and environmental degradation, and also to identify the main recipients and financiers of illicit activities.

All those involved will be responsible for the crimes of usurpation of Union assets, environmental damage to the Conservation Unit, possible money laundering, among other related crimes.
