This Tuesday (19) the Federal Police carry out Operation Descobrimento, in the states of Bahia, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Rondônia and Pernambuco, and also in Portugal, to dismantle a criminal organization specialized in the international trafficking of cocaine.
There are 43 search and seizure warrants and seven preventive arrest warrants in the Brazilian states, and three search and arrest warrants and two preventive arrest warrants that are being carried out by the Portuguese police, accompanied by federal police officers from Brazil, in the cities of Braga and Porto, in Portugal.
The warrants were issued by the 2nd Federal Court of Salvador, which also decreed patrimonial measures of seizure, confiscation of properties and blocking of values in bank accounts, and by the Portuguese Justice.
The investigations that began in February of last year when a business jet of an air taxi company landed at Salvador International Airport to fill up and, after inspection, 595 kilos of cocaine were found hidden in the fuselage.
From this apprehension, the PF identified the structure of the organization in both countries. Among those involved are cocaine suppliers, mechanics and auxiliaries, transporters and money changers, who handle the organization’s financial operations.
During the investigations, the PF had the collaboration of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), the US anti-drug agency, the National Unit to Combat Narcotics Trafficking of the Portuguese Judiciary Police, and the Federal Public Ministry.
