PF conducts operation against group suspected of stealing cargo in SP

The Federal Police and the Special Task Force to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) carried out an operation this Wednesday morning (17) against a group suspected of violently stealing cargo and trucks in municipalities in the state of São Paulo.

Nine temporary arrest warrants and eight search and seizure warrants were served in the cities of Campinas, Osasco, Barueri and the state capital of São Paulo. The warrants were issued by the 1st District Court of Barueri.

Investigation

The investigation against the association began in April this year, when the police received information that the group was approaching vehicles that were parked for the driver to rest.

The suspects would break into the cabins of the vehicles or lure the victims through freight-hiring apps. In this way, they would be taken to captivity located in bushes near the robbery sites, where they would be held captive and threatened with death.

At the location, in addition to using signal blockers in vehicles to avoid possible police intervention, the suspects made transfers via Pix.

According to the police, the suspects were linked to around 15 crimes involving the theft of trucks and other vehicles in São Paulo, in the cities of Itapevi, Osasco, São José dos Campos and Jacareí.

The police also claim that during one of the robberies there was a chase on the Rodovia dos Bandeirantes and the gang members jumped out of the moving truck and fled.

The PF indicated that the suspects planned to carry out seven other crimes, such as the theft of trucks/trailers and motorcycles, in Barueri, Cotia and Osasco.

The group (which also includes three minors) will be charged with the crimes of criminal association and robbery, whose combined sentences can reach 20 years in prison, in addition to corruption of minors.

The prisoners will be taken to the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in São Paulo.
