The Federal Police of Minas Gerais launched Operation Progênie this Tuesday morning (7), which dismantled a criminal association aimed at defrauding the INSS .
During the operation, warrants were executed in the Minas Gerais cities of Ouro Preto, Mariana and Viçosa. Two preventive arrest warrants and seven search and seizure warrants were issued by the Federal Court of Ponte Nova (MG) and carried out by the agents.
The investigation work, carried out by the Social Security Task Force team, made it possible to dismantle the criminal association. The investigations identified 43 fraudulent social security benefits and made it possible to identify the members of the criminal group.
They must now answer for the crimes of qualified embezzlement and criminal association, whose prison sentences vary from two years and four months to 9 years and seven months in prison.
According to the Federal Police, “the “modus operandi” of the criminal group consisted of creating fictitious people and involved falsifying birth certificates, identity documents and proof of residence with the aim of defrauding the INSS. The frauds carried out mostly involved support benefits for low-income elderly people.”
The illicit scheme, according to investigations, generated losses for the Union of more than R$7 million .
Operation Progênie was launched in conjunction with CGINP – General Coordination of Social Security Intelligence, of the Ministry of Social Security.
