PF dismantles gang specialized in cargo theft in Anhanguera

Two people were arrested this Thursday (28) by the Federal Police during another phase of Operation Aboiz. The suspects were being investigated for committing cargo and truck theft crimes in the region of Rodovia Anhanguera (SP-330), in the Greater São Paulo region.

According to authorities, the two suspects, after carrying out the robberies, imprisoned and extorted the victims through kidnapping.

In joint work with the Military Police of the state of Bahia, federal agents detained a woman at her family's home, in the city of Queimadas, a municipality in the state of Bahia. The suspect had fled São Paulo seeking not to be arrested during the launch of the operation and since then, she had been investigated.

The other detainee, a 24-year-old man, was located in Osasco, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. He was arrested red-handed while participating in yet another cargo theft and keeping two victims in private prison.

The Operation Aboiz investigations began in October, after federal police obtained information regarding a cargo theft that occurred in the city of Valinhos, in the interior of São Paulo. Since the crime, the operation was launched with the aim of dismantling a criminal association investigated for theft of cargo and trucks, and kidnappings of truck drivers also committed in other municipalities in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

The target group of the operation had its own scheme to attract victims, always coming from other cities and states. When they arrived in São Paulo, having access via the state's main highways, the victims were taken to the criminals through an elaborate system of supposed freight services offered via cell phone application.

During the action, the women members of the group pretended to be employees of companies interested in contracting freight services and arranged, via app, a meeting point.

Upon arriving at the location, the truck drivers were greeted by the supposed employees. Then robbed and taken hostage by the criminal group.

Surrendered, the victims were taken to captivity. In hiding places, they were forced to make withdrawals and transfers via Pix to individuals. The suspects also recorded videos of the victims, as a means of extortion, and sent the recordings to their families demanding high amounts to free them.

The choice of the name of the operation, “Aboiz”, is due to its meaning, “trap”, in reference to the way the criminal association operates.

The arrests made this Thursday (28) were ordered by the District Court of the municipality of Valinhos, in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. Two others investigated in the operation remain at large.
