PF dismantles millionaire scheme for diversion of wines of Argentine origin

The Federal Police (PF) dismantled this Wednesday (9) a criminal organization that diverted wines of Argentine origin. Eight preventive arrest warrants and 28 search and seizure warrants are served in Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Bahia.

The agents also comply with the blocking of cars, movable assets and bank accounts by order of Justice.

The investigations began this year, after the seizure of a load of Argentine wines, in Horizontina (RS), and distributed throughout Brazil without legal documents.

Upon delving into the investigations, the PF made a map containing the main suspects and found that, from December 2020 to April 2022, the organization would have moved more than BRL 100 million.

The police also discovered that the cargo entered Brazil through the northwestern border of Rio Grande do Sul, on vessels that used clandestine ports on the Brazilian side of the Uruguay River to drop off the goods. Then the wine went to the states of São Paulo and Bahia, where it was sold.

The PF made eight seizures during investigations linked to the criminal group, which totaled 17,000 bottles of wine.

This operation is called “Harry Houdini”, who was one of the most famous escapologists in history, due to his abilities to escape from handcuffs, chains, cells and prisons.

The way that members of the criminal group sought to escape police inspections, to promote the illegal entry of thousands of bottles of Argentine wines.
