The Federal Police, with the support of the Federal Revenue Service, carried out, this Wednesday (28), the operation Astarte, to dismantle a criminal organization that irregularly imports medicinal cosmetics and resells it in Brazil.
Six search and seizure warrants, eight banning bank and tax secrecy orders, five orders to appear in court, and eleven blocking financial assets totaling R$500,000 are being executed. The warrants were issued by the 5th Federal Court of Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná.
The investigations targeted a group specialized in the illegal import of products such as botulinum toxin, support threads and hyaluronic acid, used in aesthetic procedures.
The goods entered through the Paraguayan border, without authorization from Organs health agencies, while in Brazil, the products were sent by post to professionals who work performing aesthetic procedures.
The PF identified dentists, beauticians, pharmacists, biomedical doctors and businessmen spread across the country, who use this illegally obtained material on their patients.
Investigators also found that the botulinum toxin, marketed by the criminal organization, had evidence of being counterfeit. The product has no health record, no origin and no real effectiveness.
Those involved must answer for crimes of criminal organization, falsification of products for medicinal purposes, tax evasion, active and passive corruption. The name of the operation refers to the goddess of beauty in Canaanite mythology, called Astarte.
