PF does not provide escort for returnees from Gaza who received threats

The Federal Police (PF) does not currently plan to provide an escort to Brazilian-Palestinian Hasan Rabee, who has received threats and insults on social media since he was repatriated from the Gaza Strip on November 13th.

The assessment is that Hasan and his family do not currently meet the criteria to receive personal protection and, therefore, there is no legal provision. The understanding would only change if the repatriate was included in a witness protection program or upon a request from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

According to CNN As it turned out, the ministry only consulted about the possibility of escorting Hasan, his wife and their 5- and 3-year-old daughters, but there was no decision.

The request for an escort to the Ministry of Justice was made by lawyer Talitha Camargo da Fonseca on November 17th.

Hasan became known for showing the conflict in the Gaza Strip in videos and became the target of attacks on the internet. More than 200 messages containing threats and insults have already been compiled by the returnee’s defense team, which is preparing action against the perpetrators.

For the most part, Hasan is bullied and called a terrorist. There are also many mentions of the fact that the returnee appeared alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The lawyer also filed a request for Hasan to be treated in the Human Rights Defenders Protection program of the Ministry of Human Rights, but there has been no response yet.

Hasan arrived in Brazil on November 13th along with the group of 32 people, including Brazilians and family members, who were removed from the Gaza Strip. He is currently living with his family in São Paulo, but has avoided going to public places for fear of hostilities.
