The Federal Police in Manaus (AM) asked the Justice for the temporary arrest of Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, 41, known as “Pelado”, detained in the act since Tuesday (7) on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of journalist Dom Phillips and the indigenist Bruno Araújo.
The Federal Policy Crisis Committee reported this Thursday afternoon (9) that it found traces of blood on Pelado’s vessel. He is arrested in flagrante delicto for possession of restricted-use ammunition. So far, however, there is no confirmation of his involvement with the case. The duo has been missing since Sunday (5).
The material collected on the boat is on its way to Manaus, in a Black Hawk tactical helicopter, to undergo forensics.
This Thursday, the city hall of Atalaia do Norte (AM), the region where the duo was last seen, said that it “has no relation to the suspects involved in the case”. The text was released after the information that the Attorney General of the municipality, Ronaldo Caldas da Silva Maricaua, was sought by the suspect’s family to defend him.
“It is worth mentioning that the municipality of Atalaia do Norte has a limited number of lawyers, with only two professionals in the field residing in the city”, reinforces the note.

The president of the Fundação Nacional do Índio (Funai), Marcelo Xavier, said on Wednesday night (8), that the indigenist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dom Phillips erred in not informing the security agencies about the trip to Vale do Indio. Javari, in Amazonas, and not asking Funai for authorization to access the site.
The statements were given to the official journalistic program Voz do Brasil, broadcast by Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC).
“This was not a mission communicated to Funai. Funai has not issued any entry permits. It is important for people to understand that when you enter an area like this, there is a whole procedure”, said Xavier, who is a delegate of the Federal Police and supported by the agribusiness bench in the National Congress.
According to him, it is “very complicated when two people just decide to enter the indigenous land without any communication to the security agencies and Funai”.
