PF indicts 19 people, Vale and TÜV SÜD, for breaking a dam in Brumadinho

The Federal Police (PF) indicted this Friday (26) 19 people and the companies Vale and TÜV SÜD in the inquiry into the rupture of the Brumadinho dam, in Minas Gerais. The accident happened on January 25, 2019, at the Córrego do Feijão mine, and 270 people died.

Among the 19 individuals indicted are consultants, engineers, managers and directors who worked for the companies.

They were indicted for committing the crime of intentional homicide (possible intent) twice qualified for the use of a means that resulted in common danger and a remedy that made it difficult or impossible for the victims to defend themselves, 270 times.

The companies Vale and TÜV SÜD were indicted for the commission of several environmental crimes of pollution against terrestrial and aquatic fauna, flora, water resources, conservation units and archaeological sites.

Now, the inquiry now goes to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) for analysis and adoption of measures under its attribution, such as the offer of complaints against the indicted this Friday.

Vale is ordered to pay R$100m to the families of dead workers

The judge of the 5th Labor Court in Betim (MG), Vivianne Correa, sentenced Vale to indemnify the relatives heirs of the workers killed in the tragedy in R$ 100 million.

The decision is part of a collective action filed by the Union of Heavy Construction Workers, the Union of Employees in Meal Companies and by the Federation of Workers in the Construction and Real Estate Industries of the State of Minas Gerais.

According to the mining company, since 2019, agreements have been signed with more than 1,700 relatives of deceased workers, with more than R$ 1.1 billion being paid in the scope of the Labor Court. The indemnity, determined by the 5th Labor Court of Betim, corresponds to R$ 1 million per deceased worker.
