PF investigates couple suspected of smuggling people to the United States

A Federal Police operation combats human smuggling in Minas Gerais, this Tuesday morning (1).

Investigations indicate that a couple arranged irregular trips for families to the United States. He sent Brazilians to the North American country through Mexico using falsified Mexican documents.

The “Ottawa” operation also identified that the suspects changed the nationality of Brazilians, informing them that they were Ukrainians and that, because of the war in the country, they needed humanitarian asylum.

The asylum request was made to the Mexican and American authorities.

The agents carried out two search and seizure warrants at two of the couple’s addresses, one in Governador Valadares (MG) and the other in a condominium by the sea, in the Praia da Costa neighborhood, in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo.

The warrants were granted by the 1st Federal Court of Governador Valadares. The unavailability of assets and a restriction on the transfer of the couple’s luxury vehicle were also decreed.

Those investigated will be responsible for the crimes of promoting illegal emigration, irregular sending of children and adolescents abroad and ideological falsehood. If convicted, the sentence can reach up to 16 years in prison.
