PF investigates death of Brazilian woman on the border with the USA and searches for “coyotes”

This Wednesday morning (9), the Federal Police carried out two search and seizure warrants related to the death of Brazilian Márcia Cristina Dutra, 36 years old. The Caratinga miner died on the United States border, after crossing illegally from Mexico in July last year.

The warrants are carried out in the Minas Gerais municipalities of Governador Valadares and Piedade de Caratinga.

According to the PF, the objective is to elucidate the involvement of members of a group in illegal migration.

Investigations indicate that the Brazilian woman felt unwell before arriving near the North American border and was discouraged from seeking medical care by the people involved in her illegal migration, dying as soon as she arrived in the United States.

According to the Brazilian Consulate in the United States, the woman stopped halfway, sat down and passed out, never waking up again, in California. Her body was found by rescuers.

The searches carried out this Wednesday are to identify the members of the group that promoted illegal migration and check if there is evidence that there was a failure to provide assistance in her death, which could lead to the indictment of those involved for homicide, according to the PF.
