PF investigates floriculture contracted to build works with federal resources

This Wednesday (10), the Federal Police launched Operation Caliandra, with the aim of investigating irregularities in the application of federal public resources transferred to the municipality of Barra do Garças (MT) in construction works.

38 search and seizure warrants and two arrest warrants are being executed, in Barra do Garças, Pontal do Araguaia (MT), Cuiabá (MT), Aragarças (GO), Porangatu (GO) and Jussara (GO).

The investigation points to evidence of fraud in the application of resources destined for the revitalization of Orla do Rio Garças and Praça Domingos Mariano (Beira Rio), as well as the revitalization and expansion of Porto do Baé.

According to the PF, the corruption scheme would operate from the preparation of projects, the carrying out of tenders and the execution of said works.

A CNN found that a flower shop is the target of the searches, because it was hired to build the waterfront, in an irregular manner, as its activity is for the retail trade of natural plants and flowers. Because of this, the operation was named after Caliandra, which is a typical Cerrado flower.

According to what was determined, the bidding procedures would have been directed to benefit certain companies, which would not have the technical conditions to execute the contract, being contemplated, in addition to the use of shell companies to forge competitiveness.

Suspicious financial transactions were also verified involving the personal account of a municipal public servant with companies, and their legal representatives, who had contracts with the City of Barra do Garças.

The amount handled by the server was R$3 million, incompatible with his minimum wage salary, a fact that caught the attention of investigators. This server was arrested today by the PF. The other target of arrest is the owner of the company suspected of fraud.

The Municipal Department of Urban Planning and Works of Barra do Garças (MT) is also the target of this operation, which employs 111 federal police officers on the streets.

A CNN try to contact Barra do Garças City Hall.
