The football match between the clubs CA Patrocinense (MG) and Inter de Limeira (SP) in the 6th round of the Brazilian championship in series D became the target of the Federal Police (PF) for alleged manipulation of results.
The visiting team, Patrocinense, lost 3-0 against Inter, in the game held in the interior of São Paulo, at the Major Levy Sobrinho Stadium, on June 1st, and is being investigated by the PF for alleged links with sports betting houses, point initial investigation.
The investigation began when the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) sent a letter to the Federal Police, via a report by Sportradar, which stated that the betting houses’ activity indicated that bettors had prior knowledge that a certain team would lose the first half of the match by at least two goals. According to the company, 99% of the attempted rotation in the “total goals in the first half” market in this match was for this result.
Sportradar is a private company in the field of creating and using technological solutions for integrity services and fraud detection related to betting and identifying manipulation of sports results, based in Switzerland, operating since 2005.
In fact, the match in question had the result expected by the bets. The Minas Gerais team conceded 3 goals in the first half, one of which was an own goal.
The PF found that a certain betting company had signed a partnership with Patrocinense and several players managed by it were hired.
This Wednesday morning (26), federal police officers took to the streets in three states to execute 11 search and seizure warrants, issued by the São Paulo Court to seize documents. The measures were implemented in the cities of PatrocÃnio (MG), São José do Rio Preto (SP), São Paulo (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Tanguá (RJ) and Nova Friburgo (RJ).
The targets of the operation are members and former members of Patrocinense. According to the PF, the investigation wants to know whether there was influence by these people from the betting company on the result of the match.
These are, in theory, crimes against the uncertainty of the sporting result, which meet the conduct typified in the General Sports Law, with penalties of two to six years in prison.
