The Federal Police (PF) is investigating the origin of the US$5,000 (around R$25,000) seized from one of the two suspects with links to Hezbollah arrested this Wednesday (8). He was detained at Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, after arriving from Lebanon.
The PF’s intelligence sector is investigating whether the money was paid by Hezbollah for allegedly planning attacks against Jewish community buildings in Brazil. The notes will undergo forensic examination.
The PF now wants to know how this money would be used and whether it would be passed on to others being investigated in the investigation being carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Division.
The plan was discovered by the PF with international police cooperation from the United States and Israel. In addition to the arrests, 11 search and seizure warrants were executed, seven of them in Minas Gerais.
A CNN found that the case started in Belo Horizonte because one of the co-opters was a resident of the capital of Minas Gerais. Three other search warrants were carried out in Brasília and one in São Paulo.
