PF launches operation against group that produced and sold counterfeit banknotes in RJ

This Tuesday morning (6), the Federal Police (PF) launched an operation against a group suspected of producing and selling counterfeit money throughout Brazil. The main objective is to dismantle a graphic laboratory dedicated to counterfeit banknotes, which were sold by the investigated criminal organization.

In today’s action, federal police officers from the Delegation for Repression of Treasury Crimes and the Federal Police Delegation in Nova Iguaçu serve three preventive arrest warrants, one house arrest warrant and eight search and seizure warrants in the municipalities of Duque de Caxias (RJ). ), Nova Iguaçu (RJ) and São João de Meriti (RJ).

According to the PF, in the laboratory, the teams seized a large amount of devices for counterfeiting currency, such as special paper, printers, inks, equipment, finishing material and credit card machines. The police also found ready-made counterfeit ballots and others in the making phase.

The investigation points out that a criminal organization used social networks to market counterfeit money and sent orders with illicit material by post.

The clearance began in August 2022, after sending more than 1,000 packages with counterfeit money, about 200 kg in banknotes.

Those investigated will respond for the crimes of criminal organization, counterfeit currency and counterfeit currency by equivalence, whose sum penalties can reach more than 25 years of imprisonment. After the usual formalities, prisoners will be sent to the state prison system, where they will remain at the disposal of Justice
