Since the early hours of the morning of this Thursday (2) the Federal Police (PF) has been on the streets of Paraná and Bahia with the Guarani Connection Operation, to dismantle a criminal organization specializing in international trafficking, clandestine trade in firearms restricted, money laundering and tax evasion.
In the action, federal police officers execute six search and seizure warrants in the municipalities of Porto Seguro and Feira de Santana, in Bahia, and Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná, in addition to blocking assets belonging to the investigated in the amount of R$ 10 million .
The investigation conducted by the Rio de Janeiro PF Police Station for the Repression of Crimes against Property and International Traffic in Arms (Delepat) began after the Paraguayan press announced the seizure of a load of approximately 180 disassembled rifles at Guaraní International Airport, in the metropolitan area of Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, in March 2020.
As ascertained, the clandestine cargo left on a plane that left Miami, in the United States, and would make a stop at the Paraguayan airport and, finally, would arrive in Rio de Janeiro, where the rifles would be sold illegally to criminal factions.
According to the PF, at the time, in an attempt to deceive inspection and policing, the investigated gang recorded the content of the cargo as different from what was actually transported, as well as attributed ownership of the cargo to an “orange”, an individual who had no knowledge about the criminal fact.
Also participating in the investigations were the International Task Force to Combat Arms and Ammunition Trafficking (FICTA), made up of members of the National Secretariat for Public Security and supervised by the Federal Police’s Arms Trafficking Repression Service; the US Embassy’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); the Attaché of the Federal Police in Paraguay; among other national and international entities.
