The Federal Police launched this Tuesday (8) an operation against crimes of embezzlement and money laundering at the Post Office. Six search and seizure warrants were carried out in the states of Pará and Goiás and in the Federal District.
According to the investigations that gave rise to the so-called operation Boomerangue, the investigated group sent objects worth around R$10,000 that were insured. Then, with the help of postal workers, they misplaced the purchases and asked for insurance payments for not receiving the goods.
The PF claims that the group had been operating for more than a year. In the warrants served, boxes for cell phones with cardboard inside were found.
It was not known whether suspects were arrested in the operation. The Federal Police attributed the crimes of embezzlement, criminal association and money laundering, whose combined penalties can reach 19 years in prison.
In a note, the Correios stated that the Boomerangue operation “is a joint action carried out between the Correios and the security agency”, as a consequence “of the unfolding of information previously provided by the state company”.
The company also classified the behavior of employees, also not named or accounted for, as “unacceptable”. “The state-owned company has already immediately adopted the disciplinary measures that the case requires,” the statement added.
