The Federal Police carries an operation against the illegal mining in the second largest indigenous land in Brazil in the Javari Valley, in the western region of Amazonas.
Operation Nidaid Isimquim was launched last Thursday (24) and occurs until this Thursday (1). So far, 16 Dragas and Machinery of Minas Gerais that threaten isolated indigenous communities, riverside and unique ecosystems of the Amazon.
PF has also collected evidence that will support future operations to Identify leaders and financiers of illegal activity as well as their connections with organized crime.
The Javari Valley is the second largest indigenous land in Brazil, with about 8.5 million hectares, and concentrates largest population of isolated indigenous people in the world.
Today there are nine confirmed references of isolated groups and five others under study, and approximately 7 thousand indigenous of different ethnicities in the place . Authorities warn that illegal mining, when moving on the territory, puts these populations at risk of mercury contamination, and causes cultural losses.
The Federal Police action is made in partnership with Ibama and the Funai Javari Valley Ethno -Environmental Protection Front.
