PF operates in five states against synthetic drug trafficking

The Federal Police carried out on Wednesday (14) an operation in five states against a large national scheme for the production and distribution of synthetic drugs.

The agents fulfill 25 pre -trial detention warrants and 15 search and seizure warrants during Operation Cartel. Judicial orders are met in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Espirito Santo and the Federal District.

The goal is to dismantle the criminal organization which, according to PF, has a business structure and is able to manufacture more than 4.2 million ecstasy tablets per production cycle.

The investigation by the drug repression police station revealed a sophisticated illegal scheme with clandestine laboratory installed in communities in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the Baixada Fluminense and in the interior of Paraná. The criminal group also uses closed companies to acquire chemical inputs and move illicit resources.

The PF states that the gang operated under the protection of local criminal factions, upon payment of a “territorial tax”, which acts as an informal license system. In return, part of the drug was intended for trafficking in the region.

Chemicals intended for the production of narcotics were acquired with invoices issued by “facade” companies, detached from their real activities such as perfumeries and barber shops.

The Federal Police expert report pointed out that a single façade company linked to the gang leader acquired about 4.6 tons of DMSO, an essential substance to produce MDA.

According to the PF, the leader of the criminal organization was arrested on Tuesday (13) in a luxury apartment in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, neighborhood of the West Zone of Rio.

Still on Tuesday, two other group members were also arrested. In addition, luxury vehicles, cash, synthetic drugs and relevant documents for the investigation were seized.

Throughout the investigation, the police conducted significant seizures and arrests. The PF highlights the arrest of a suspect with 67,000 ecstasy tablets and an investigated detained at a clandestine laboratory in Duque de Caxias, Baixada Fluminense, in November 2023. Investigated people will be responsible for drug trafficking and criminal organization crimes.
