Dozens of wild animals were rescued by the Federal Police (PF) this Tuesday morning (2) in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo. The animals were in captivity and would be used for commercial purposes through social media.
A search and seizure warrant was executed issued by the 9th Federal Court in Campinas. The PF found 60 snakes, seven lizards, 19 spiders and four turtles.
The animals will be examined to identify their origin and sent to appropriate institutions.
The operation took place after the PF discovered that an investigated openly offered wild animals for sale through profiles created on social networks.
The person under investigation was taken to the Federal Police station in Campinas and will be charged with the crimes of illegal custody, trade and mistreatment, for which penalties can reach 3 years in prison.
If forensic examination proves that they are animals from other countries, the penalty may be increased.
