THE Federal Police (PF) seized 211 slot machines and approximately R$50,000 in cash at a bingo house in the Bonsucesso neighborhood in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The operation was launched on Tuesday (3) with the aim of combating the illegal exploitation of gambling commonly used by criminal organizations operating in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the police, investigations identified an establishment where a structure dedicated to gambling was maintained clandestinely.

In addition to the slot machines and cash, the agents also seized a 45-caliber firearm, several ammunition and two cars used by bingo house managers.

All the seized material was taken to the PF Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro. The clandestine establishment – which was closed after the operation – also operated a highly structured bingo hall, with the capacity to serve hundreds of people daily.

At the time of the action, there were clandestine bingo employees and customers inside the gaming house. All were taken to the police station to provide clarification and were charged with conduct provided for in the Criminal Misdemeanor Law.

According to the PF, investigations will continue to try to identify those truly responsible for the clandestine establishment, in addition to investigating possible crimes involving criminal organization and money laundering.
