In a note sent to the press, the PF stated that, until then divided this function with the Bahia Civil Police, but was ahead because it is a property listed by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN).

PF expects the information to be fully shared “We have not yet received all the material from the Civil Police, as they are underway. Also according to the Federal Police they had access to security images of the site, but there is no deadline for the inquiry to be completed. “Because it is a complex expertise, it is not possible to give an exact deadline. For now, the images will not be disclosed, as they are in the interest of the investigation, which is confidential. ”

IPHAN, a municipality linked to the Ministry of Culture, also released that the last technical survey of the agency at the site was in May 2024. At the time, no evidence of “imminent risk in the structure of the church, capable of provoking the collapse of the ceiling lining, which was also attested by Bahia Civil Defense inspections ”.
In order to avoid new tragedies, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) recommended that Iphan in Bahia and the first order of San Francisco adopt emergency measures.
IPHAN pointed out that it will hire the emergency works that will encompass shoring, stabilization, access and safety of the monument and the workers involved. Also at this stage, according to the Institute, will be carried out the work of diagnosis, screening, cataloging, cleaning, protection and storage of structures and artistic goods that will be restored and reassembled in another phase of the process.
Still in the statement, IPHAN says that it had already hired, for R $ 1.2 million, a company specialized to elaborate the complete restoration project of the complex formed by the Church and Convent of São Francisco de Assis.
