The Federal Police are on the streets this Wednesday (30) in an operation against an organized group responsible for moving money to foreign platforms, especially sports betting platforms. The group under investigation moved around R$1.6 billion in less than three years, according to the PF.
Nine search and seizure warrants were executed in Itajaí (SC), Balneário Camboriú (SC), Navegantes (SC) and Olinda (PE). The group’s luxury cars are being seized.
In addition to searches, the PF also complies with court orders regarding the unavailability of goods and values that can reach R$70 million, as well as blocking orders with cryptoactive exchanges in payment institutions.
The PF points out that the group under investigation maintains companies providing payment services in the coastal region of Santa Catarina. Basically, these companies provide payment technology services for internet platforms.
It was identified in the investigation that the group has been providing payment services for unauthorized sports betting platforms, as well as for committing scams on the internet.
The targets of this operation are the owners of these companies that provide payment services. There are no arrest warrants at this stage.
According to the PF, the money was sent informally abroad, via cryptoactives, constituting the crime of currency evasion. Furthermore, financial flows dedicated to money laundering for third parties were identified, including public agents and those suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
Investigations demonstrate that, even with the extremely high financial turnover of this group, a large portion of the companies do not maintain any indication of functioning. Suspicions indicate that most of the companies identified in the name of the group’s members are shell companies or holding companies, which seek to shield the assets raised through the activities carried out.
The PF also highlights in the investigation that “there is overwhelming evidence” that the criminal group has expanded its operations abroad in recent months, with the opening of offices in Latin American countries and Portugal. Offices outside Brazil are not targets for searches.
