Pfizer says there is no date for delivery of childhood vaccine to Brazil

despite the Ministry of Health inform that children can receive coronavirus vaccines on January 10, Pfizer replied to CNN Brasil that “it is not yet possible to determine the date of delivery of pediatric doses to Brazil”.

The laboratory explained, in a note, that it makes every effort to ensure that immunization agents reach the country as quickly as possible and that it works with the government to define the next steps in the process.

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, stated to CNN that “we have enough doses, as already explained in the public consultation document”.

The document released this Thursday night provides for vaccination based on medical prescription and parental consent, but does not detail how many vaccines will be applied to children in this first wave.

Based on data from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the Ministry of Health works with a public of 20 million children, between 5 and 11 years old.

By the proposed schedule, as soon as the vaccination begins, priority will be given to children with comorbidities or who live with people at high risk for severe disease progression.

The government and the laboratory signed a contract that provides for the supply of 100 million doses of the vaccine in 2022.

The agreement includes the possibility of “providing modified versions of the immunizing agent for variants, which may eventually be developed if necessary, and versions for different age groups, as requested by the Ministry of Health”, according to Pfizer.”
