There is good news on the vaccine front for the European Union. Pfizer Biontech restarts with regular distribution. From February 15, deliveries should increase and, in the first quarter of 2021, the company ensures the doses provided for in the contract. Another 75 million doses should arrive by June.
The company also announced a further increase in production. For the year there should be two billion doses, 700 thousand more than the previous one.
Pfizer Biontech has announced the completion of the upgrade of the Puurs plant in Belgium.
This is why the company had said it had to cut its deliveries in the European Union. They also arrived agreements with new partners, companies and factories to increase production and can also manufacture the Biontech site in Marburg, Germany.
Thanks to this and to the arrivals of the Moderna and Astrazeneca vaccines, recommended only for those under 55, the vaccination plan should restart. The campaign for the over 80s should start in mid-February in almost all regions. 4 million 442 thousand people will have to be vaccinated.
Phase one of the vaccination is nearing its conclusion. So far 1.9 million Italians have received the first dose. There are 1 million 355 thousand vaccinated public and hospital health workers, less than 50 thousand are left to complete coverage of the first dose. The numbers of the RSA are further behind.
Trentino has already started with the over 80s, the Lazio starts today with the opening of reservations. From next week it’s up to Valle d’Aosta, Piedmont. Then Veneto and Liguria will come from 15 and 12 February. In Friuli we start in the second half of February. Only at the end of March will the Lombardy. Emilia-Romagna presents the plan at the weekend. Reservations are active in Campania, starting between 10 and 15 February. In Sicily it starts at the end of February, in Sardinia in March. There are no certain dates for the other regions.
