Pfizer: Will ship vaccines to Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines

About 14.1 million doses vaccine of Pfizer / BioNTech against COVID-19 are destined for delivery in 47 countries and economies in the second quarter of the year, as announced today by the GAVI vaccine alliance, reports APE.

Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the Philippines, South Africa and Ukraine are expected to be among the main recipients. Pfizer vaccine between April and June, according to the GAVI table, “based on current data on the availability of COVID-19 vaccine distribution”.

GAVI co-manages it COVAX mechanism together with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners.

The COVAX program offers a lifeline, especially in low-income countries, allowing them to immunize health workers and other citizens at high risk, even if their governments have failed to obtain vaccines from manufacturers.

The program distributed nearly 38.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to 102 countries on six continents, six weeks after it began distribution, Gavi announced last Thursday.

AstraZeneca vaccine deliveries to 142 countries and the economies participating in the program, which have already been announced, are in progress “with some delays”, which may extend deliveries beyond May, according to GAVI.

Reduced availability delayed some deliveries in March and April, while much of the production of India’s Serum Institute, which makes the AstraZeneca vaccine, remains in India, where the number of daily cases is rising rapidly.
