Pfizer’s antiviral pill, which was able to reduce hospitalization or death by 89% in patients at increased risk of developing Covid-19 severe cases, is “simple to use” and something that “has been expected for a long time” to fight the disease, according to infectologist José Valdez Madruga.
In an interview with CNN Radio, he, who is the study’s principal investigator at the São Paulo Reference and Training Center, said the next step is to “compile the data and submit it to regulatory authorities.” , from the United States, to the European agency, EMA, and later to Anvisa”, he said.
According to Valdez, the drug needs to be taken twice a day, along with another drug, Ritonavir, and is the “real early treatment.”
He believes that the trend is for more remedies against Covid-19 to emerge, for “combined strategies”: maintaining social distance, using masks and vaccination.
“Behavior is super important, if we are not careful, even with the vaccinated population, the pandemic is growing again, we have seen this in other countries, England and Holland, they are reviewing the issue of flexibility”, he added.
