PGR asks the STF to reject the secrecy of messages between Aras and businessmen

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent a statement to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in which it asks the Court to reject the request to remove the secrecy of the alleged messages between the Attorney General of the Republic Augusto Aras and businessmen who were the target of search and seizure warrants.

“The political actors who are now requesting, based on journalistic material and under the exclusive foundation of alleged “anti-democratic dialogues”, try to use conjectures and inferences to initiate and conduct investigative fronts with media spectacularization, without minimal factual and legal substrate,” he said. the PGR.

This week, Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the PGR to comment on the request made by senators. The PGR stated that parliamentarians want to carry out an “indiscriminate speculative criminal prosecution” and turn this into “media exploitation”.

According to the PGR, there is no legal basis to give impetus to the petition.

“In fact, it is intended to attempt to open an evidentiary prospection to be developed by specific political actors in an election year, with the correlated media exploitation of their performance, and the consequent attempt of a “fishing expedition” on a new political front in search of protagonism legal system in place of the competent authorities”, said the PGR.

In the request, senators Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), Humberto Costa (PT-PE) and Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES) ask that the confidentiality of the dialogues be lifted and that the secrecy be transferred to the Federal Senate, the body constitutionally competent to evaluate a possible crime of responsibility of the Attorney General of the Republic, in the proper rite of the impeachment action”.

The parliamentarians also affirm that “public knowledge about the topics actually dealt with in the conversations held between high-ranking public authorities and businessmen who are adept at anti-democratic tensions is a necessary measure, precisely so that there is a broad and social scrutiny of the real intentions of certain federal authorities”.

The minister released this Monday (29) the decision that authorized the operation. The operation was triggered after the Metrópoles portal revealed exchanges of messages in a WhatsApp group in which businessmen defended a coup d’état. In the decision, Moraes cites the dialogues.
