The Phaistos Fund investment in Matternet Inc. (series B financing round) announced 5G Ventures.

Matternet, a US-based company founded by the talented Greek Andreas Raptopoulos, is active in the field of micro-transport via drones in urban centers in Europe, North America and the Middle East.

In the framework of the agreement for the realization of the investment, Matternet proceeds to the establishment of a subsidiary company in Greece (Matternet Europe), for all its activities in Europe.

Matternet uses drones to transport and deliver objects weighing up to two kilograms within urban areas and within a radius of up to 20 km. The company has developed an innovative cloud-based platform that can take advantage of the capabilities provided by 5G networks for secure management. of the fleet using encrypted communications. In addition, Matternet has built innovative take-off / landing stations that also act as drone charging points.

Matternet investors so far include Boeing, HorizonX Ventures, Sony, Sony Innovation Fund, Mercedes-Benz and Swiss Post.

To date, Matternet drones have flown 20,000 commercial flights to eight cities in the United States, Switzerland, Germany and the United Arab Emirates. contributing to the safe handling and delivery of vulnerable items, without burdening urban traffic, in a highly sustainable and environmentally friendly way (ESG criteria)

Matternet solutions are already being used to transport vulnerable items between healthcare facilities in Switzerland, and on an annual basis the company is estimated to serve 100 destinations in Abu Dhabi, delivering 3 million medical supplies to the city’s healthcare facilities.
