Phantom wallet users no longer need to remember the seed phrase

Phantom developers have added the ability to create a crypto wallet using only an email address and a four-digit PIN code.

In their opinion, writing down or remembering a seed phrase when creating a new wallet is too long and confusing a process for most people.

To avoid inconvenience, users sometimes decide to take potentially dangerous steps, for example, taking a screenshot of a secret combination of words. And a piece of paper with notes can be lost along with access to the wallet.

Instead, Phantom decided to go the route of many traditional Web2 services and implement registration by email or through Google and Apple accounts. A four-digit PIN code is used to access the wallet.

Function built on a non-custodial key management protocol. The seed phrase has not disappeared anywhere; it is hidden from the user and stored locally on his device. Backups of phrases are encrypted on Phantom servers, and backup copies of keys are divided between members of the Juicebox network.

“No party, with the exception of the user, will ever be able to restore the seed in decrypted form,” the developers emphasized.

The feature is already live in Phantom apps.

In November, some users of the Phantom iOS app lost access to tokens due to an update.
