The Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) denied the request by the defense of Natália Becker, 29, for the investigation into the phenol peeling case to be conducted under judicial secrecy. Regarding the investigation records, these remain under secrecy, according to the TJ-SP.
The peeling was performed by Natália, who owns Studio Natalia Becker, located in the south of São Paulo, on June 3 of this year. Businessman Henrique Chagas, 27, died after undergoing the procedure at the clinic.
According to Becker’s defense, the woman took an online course to learn the technique that killed Henrique.
The businessman, who wanted to alleviate the acne marks on his face, began to feel unwell minutes after the procedure. He reported having felt a lot of pain during the “phenol peel” procedure on his partner, Marcelo Camargo, as reported in the police report.
The businessman paid just over R$4,000 to have the technique performed. Some SAMU teams were called to help, but despite attempts to revive him, he did not survive.
The beautician was indicted for murder with eventual intent, that is, she “assumed the risk of committing murder by carrying out the procedure without the appropriate structure and competence”, as delegate Eduardo Luís Ferreira reported at the beginning of June.
What is phenol peeling?
There are several types of peeling, with lower and higher levels of aggression to the skin cells. Each of them has different objectives, ranging from renewing the skin and improving light blemishes, to improving the skin texture and even reducing deep wrinkles, causing greater rejuvenation.
Phenol peeling, which is an acidic substance, is applied in the last of these cases, with the aim of denaturing or breaking down the proteins present in the skin, resulting in peeling and stimulating cell renewal and collagen production, as explained by dermatologist Juliana Toma.
