The Civil Police are investigating the death of Henrique Chagas, aged 27, after carrying out a phenol peeling procedure at an aesthetics clinic. In an interview with CNN, dermatologist Elisete Crocco, coordinator of the Department of Cosmetics at the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, warned about the risks of the procedure.
Care during the procedure
The specialist emphasized the need for cardiac monitoring during the procedure, as phenol contact with the skin can cause changes in the electrocardiogram and lead to arrhythmias.
She reinforced that phenol peeling should not be carried out by beauticians, but rather by healthcare professionals trained to deal with the risks involved.
“Phenol peeling is a procedure that must be carried out by dermatologists. It has the ability to coagulate proteins, that is, to cause tissue destruction of the entire epidermis and even the deeper dermis of individuals who receive this procedure”, explained the doctor.
About the Case
The investigation into the death of Henrique Chagas seeks to clarify the circumstances of what happened and determine whether there was negligence or failure in the procedure carried out at the aesthetic clinic.
On Monday afternoon (03), the Military Police were called to respond to an incident at Studio Natalia Becker, in Campo Belo, South Zone of São Paulo. At the scene, officers found the man already unconscious.
At the establishment, a team from Samu provided aid and, despite attempts at resuscitation, Henrique did not resist.
The person responsible for the clinic, Natália Becker, 29 years old, was present and reported that she had carried out a “facial peeling” procedure — using Alivium 500 mg — and Henrique had difficulty breathing and asked for help.
