More than a month after the death of businessman Henrique Chagas, 27, during the aesthetic procedure known as “phenol peeling” the result of the report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) indicated that the victim suffered cardiorespiratory arrest.
A sudden loss of heart function occurred due to acute pulmonary edema from inhaling phenol applied to the face according to the document from the Technical-Scientific Police that CNN had access this Tuesday (17).
This condition is known as “water in the lungs” due to the accumulation of fluid in the blood vessels in small structures of the lung, the alveoli. The edema compromises the exchange of oxygen, and without it, the heart stops.
O The aesthetic procedure took place at the Natália Becker clinic, in São Paulo . The woman was indicted for eventual intent.
The expert detected phenol on the victim’s skin with “skin changes compatible with burns”. The report also states that Henrique had moderate alveolar hemorrhage.
On the day of the procedure, the victim was accompanied by her then-boyfriend Marcelo Camargo. In an interview with CNN he says he was waiting for the test results and asks for justice: “I really hope that with this official report we can see justice happening. Nathalia cannot remain free, unpunished”, he says.
